Corps awards contract to build temporary boat launch during Isabella Dam construction

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District awarded a $5.7 million contract Dec. 23 to Spectrum-Straub JV of Sacramento to construct a temporary boat launch and parking at French Gulch Recreation Area as part of the Isabella Lake Dam Safety Modification Project.

Miami Beach sand project resumes; public meeting Jan. 5

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District announces that construction resumes after the holidays for the Miami Beach erosional Hotspots beach renourishment. The $11.9 million project is part of the Miami-Dade County Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami Beach invite the public to attend an informational meeting regarding the upcoming construction at Miami Beach City Hall Thursday, Jan. 5 at 6 p.m.

Army Corps resumes oyster restoration in Tred Avon River sanctuary

The Baltimore District resumed the construction of oyster reef in the Tred Avon River Oyster Sanctuary in Talbot County, Dec. 14, 2016. Eight acres of reef will be restored using aged mixed shell in water depths greater than 9 feet mean lower low water.

Mega projects continue at McConnell Air Force Base

You’ve probably heard chatter about the KC-46A Pegasus aircraft. One of the Kansas City District’s largest projects is to provide support to the warfighter and the latest incoming equipment at McConnell Air Force Base. The KC-46A is an aerial refueling and strategic transport aircraft for the military. A new fleet of aircraft is scheduled to replace nearly 100 of the oldest KC-135E Stratotankers across the U.S., which have been in production since 1957.

Corps of Engineers to host webinar on new permit process for work in Maryland

The Regulatory Branch is hosting a webinar Nov. 9, 2016, from 10 a.m. - noon on its fifth version of the Maryland State Programmatic General Permit (MDSPGP-5), which became effective Oct. 1, 2016, and will expire Sept. 30, 2021. The intent of MDSPGP-5 is to provide a streamlined Department of the Army authorization for certain recurring activities in Maryland formerly covered by the Nationwide Permits program that are similar in nature, have minimal individual and cumulative adverse effects on the aquatic environment, and satisfy other public interest review factors.

Contract awards come fast and furious as fiscal year 2016 wraps up

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District moved into high gear, awarding 179 contracts worth more than $122 million in September to close out the fiscal year. Overall in FY 2016, the Sacramento District awarded 849 actions worth more than $404 million, including $258.5 million for military construction projects.
