VIPs visit Camp Humphreys

Maj. Gen. Yenter visited the Republic of Korea to view construction progress on the Korea Relocation Program and to participate in the Eighth Army rehearsal of concept (ROC) drill. The ROC drill will prepare units for moving out of Seoul and areas near the Demilitarized Zone and into the central hubs of Camp Humphreys and U.S. Army Garrison Daegu.

Environmental report on proposed dike repairs available for final comment

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District is taking comments for the next 30 days on an environmental report related to the rehabilitation of Herbert Hoover Dike surrounding Lake Okeechobee. The comment period for the final environmental impact statement on the Herbert Hoover Dike Dam Safety Modification Study opens today (June 3) and will remain open until Sunday, July 3. The document focuses on the potential environmental impacts related to the Corps’ recommended plan to complete rehabilitation on the dike.

NR 16-013: Surface drainage correction requires lane closure on Highway 127 across Wolf Creek Dam

Jamestown, Ky. (May 20, 2016) – During a road restoration project on Highway 127 over Wolf Creek Dam, contractors found a pocket of voids on Monday at the edge of the roadway, the result of surface drainage erosion. The Corps’ engineers have been on site since then to determine the most efficient and timely solution in order to reduce the extended lane closures currently in effect for the project.

16-017 Corps awards turbine repair contract; turbine removed after 20 years

LOWER SNAKE RIVER, Wash. – The march toward modernizing the Corps hydropower facilities continued on Apr. 7, 2016, when workers at Lower Monumental Lock and Dam lifted the unit 1 turbine out of the turbine pit. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Corps is the Nation’s largest hydropower producer and the Walla Walla District is the Corps’ 2nd largest hydropower producer. The Walla Walla District awarded a $12.9 million contract to ANDRITZ HYDRO in July 2015, for generator winding replacement and turbine cavitation repairs to modernize the hydroelectric facilities at Lower Monumental Dam.
