  • ERDC team delivers annual Earth Day message to local students

    On April 20, a group from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Installation Operations Command (IOC) and Environmental Laboratory celebrated Earth Day with fourth grade students from Bowmar Avenue Elementary School in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The U.S. Army’s theme for Earth Day this year is “A Partnership for the Planet.”
  • ERDC announces dates for 2022 GEMS Camps

    The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) will host the Gains in Education of Math and Science (GEMS) this summer in Vicksburg, Miss. GEMS, which is sponsored by Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP), exposes 6th – 12th grade students to various aspects of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and encourages them to explore STEM careers.

    A Vicksburg Boy Scout troop recently visited the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Waterways Experiment Station for a weekend campout and a hands-on look at some of the center’s latest and greatest technology and research.

  • Fifth graders help Army engineers

    In early December 2021, several 5th grade classes at Zundy Elementary in Wichita Falls, Texas helped beta test the Missouri Basin Balancer web-based video game for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Northwestern Division. Throughout 2021, the Northwestern Division and Omaha District worked with USACE's Engineer Research and Development Center to get the game updated.

    Armed with toothpicks and marshmallows, members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District conducted outreach events at four Anchorage schools to mark National Engineers Week from Feb. 20 to 26. The annual observance is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in science, technology, engineering and math careers.

  • Inaugural ERDC Day held at Alcorn State University

    Recently, Alcorn State University (ASU) hosted a team of personnel from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg, Mississippi, for a career day. The event—known as ERDC Day— was the first of its kind to be held on the ASU campus in Lorman, Mississippi.
  • Program manager recognized as ‘Modern-Day Technology Leader’

    WASHINGTON D.C. (Feb. 18, 2021) – Officials honored the Hydropower Remote Operations Program manager with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District as a “Modern-Day Technology Leader” during the 36th Black Engineer of the Year Awards’ Technology Recognition Ceremony today at the Omni Shoreham Hotel.
  • USACE Mechanical Engineer Wins High-Level Award

    Announced last November, Shahidou Mariko is a selectee for the Modern-Day Technology Leader Award for the 2022 Black Engineer of the Year Awards STEM Conference. Mariko received the award during the Technology Recognition Event hosted virtually in Washington February 17-19. The award recognizes Mariko’s work on an alternative health care facility for COVID-positive patients in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.
