NR 16-021: Public invited to Barkley Dam 50th Anniversary commemoration

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 9, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is inviting the public to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Barkley Dam during a ceremony 11 a.m. Aug. 20, 2016 at the Spillway Shelter below the dam. The project is named after the late Alben W. Barkley, attorney, county judge, United States senator, and 35th vice president of the United States.

Martins Fork park ranger finds merit in leading Boy Scouts

Local teachers develop STEM curriculum through Corps externships

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 26, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is committed to supporting science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs in partnership with local educators. Three Stratford STEM Magnet High School teachers recently participated in an externship at the Nashville District Headquarters and at Old Hickory Dam that will help them develop project-based curriculum and facilitate applied learning.

Corps prepares future student engineers at Summer Engineering Program

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 24, 2016) –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District collaborated with the Tennessee State University College of Engineering, Technology and Computer Science Department to mentor science, technology, engineering and math students involved in a four-week National Summer Transportation Institute program on the campus of TSU June 20 through July 1.

National Guard conducts security assistance exercise at Old Hickory Dam

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (June 20, 2016) – Tennessee National Guard soldiers set up road blocks and patrolled nearby the Old Hickory Dam Powerhouse this morning to protect the facility during a security assistance exercise in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District.

NR 16-015: Military security exercise planned at Old Hickory Dam

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 16, 2016) – As part of one of the largest statewide disaster preparedness exercises in Tennessee state history, the US Army Corps of Engineers is hosting the Tennessee Army National Guard for a military security exercise 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2016 on the powerhouse side of Old Hickory Dam located in Hendersonville, Tenn. The exercise will facilitate the training and coordination necessary between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, which operates the lock and dam, and the National Guard to secure such a critically important facility. The exercise will have little impact on the operation of project.

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (May 13, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is offering public access to Old Hickory Navigation Lock located at Cumberland River mile 216.2. The lock will be accessible to visitors seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from May 26 until Sept. 6, 2016.

ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. (May 13, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is offering public access to Cheatham Navigation Lock, located at Cumberland River mile 148.7. The lock is open to visitors seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from May 26 until Sept. 6, 2016.
