USACE Office of Value Expertise earns accolades at international industry event

It was nearly a clean sweep for the USACE Value Program, which was awarded six of eight honors during the SAVE International 2022 Value Summit held June 4-8 in Glendale, Arizona. The Summit is a yearly event providing essential continuing education to individuals that practice Value Engineering by bringing together professionals from the Value Engineering industry from around the world.

Construction continues on Canandaigua VA hospital project

Work continues on multiple projects across the campus of the Canandaigua VA Medical Center, as visitors can notice the work on new facilities and upgrades to current buildings across 75 percent of the hospital’s grounds.  The work is being done thanks to recommendations from the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Capital Asset Realignment for Enhanced Services (CARES) program noting that the decades-old facilities were being underutilized, said Gerry DiPaola, USACE Project Manager for the Canandaigua VA Medical Center construction.

Louisville Veterans Administration Medical Center project team recognizes Construction Safety Week

Personnel from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District, the new Louisville VA Medical Center, and the Walsh-Turner Joint Venture II came together May 2 to kick off a week of events in recognition of Construction Safety Week. This year’s theme is “Connected. Supported. Safe,” and it seemed fitting as speakers from the various organizations involved in the building of the new Louisville VA Medical Center addressed the crowd about the importance of safety and teamwork.

Louisville VA Medical Center site sees more activity as work progresses

Construction on the new Louisville VA Medical Center being built in Louisville, Kentucky, has only been ongoing for five months, but the site already looks quite different from how it appeared during last year’s Veterans’ Day groundbreaking ceremony. Members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District’s VA Division and the contracting teams have been hard at work during the initial stages of this mega-project, said Melody Thompson, Louisville VA Medical Center project manager.

Construction on the new Louisville VA Medical Center clears a major milestone

The construction site of the new Louisville VA Medical Center has seen a lot of changes since the first shovels of dirt were ceremonially dug during the groundbreaking ceremony Nov. 11, 2021. Contractors have been busy performing various earthwork activities as well as drilling on the site in preparation for the first blasting to break up the bedrock under the site which took place Feb. 21.

Special Projects Branch hits 10-year milestone

In many organizations, there are some tasks and projects that just don’t seem to fit into an easily defined category. This was also the case for the Corps of Engineers Omaha District in 2009. The District had projects that needed to be completed, but didn’t quite fit the mold of the programs they were assigned to. The solution to that issue to the stand up the Special Projects Branch. It was a new concept when the first eight-person team was assembled to take on these outliers, which totaled more than $140 million that first year. Since then, the branch has grown to 52 people and nearly $600 million worth of work annually.

Omaha District 2019 Fiscal Year in Review

It’s been another busy year across the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Omaha District, with many significant accomplishments taking place during 2019. The District closed out the fiscal year Sept. 30 with a $1.4 billion program, one of the largest the district has ever managed, surpassing last year’s total of $1.29 billion. That included more than $61 million in civil works, almost $400 million in military missions, $359 million in special projects and $386 million in environmental missions.
