    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 17, 2013) -- Although creation of the Tennessee Valley Authority by Congressional Act on May 18, 1933 relieved the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers of most of its role in developing the economic potential of the Tennessee River and its tributaries, the Corps retained a development and operational role on the Cumberland River and its tributaries.

    Gateway Triathlon at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – 1863 Events will be hosting a triathlon at Carlyle Lake on Sunday, May 19, 2013. The triathlon will begin in the Dam West Day Use Area at 8:00 a.m. and will consist of two groups, beginner and advanced, competing in a timed swim, run and bike course. The swim portion will take place on the south side of the main beach. The route of the run course will take participants across the main dam and saddle dam two to South Shore State Park. The bike course will start at the main dam and will travel North on Clinton and Bond County roads. While visiting Carlyle Lake during the triathlon, visitors are encouraged to take extra caution while driving in the areas of the triathlon course.

    Corps seeks public comment on Draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment, Louisville Bend Fish and Wildlife Rehabilitation Project

    A draft supplemental environmental assessment (EA) for the construction of a new channel and deep water habitat at Louisville Bend is currently available for public review. The draft supplemental EA evaluates the environmental impacts of constructing a new water supply channel between an existing pump station and the Louisville Oxbow Lake and enhancing shallow water habitat quality by excavating 2.4 acres of deep water habitat for overwintering fish. The proposed project is located on the Louisville Bend State Wildlife Area between river miles 681.7-685.4, approximately three miles west of Blencoe in Monona County, Iowa.
