LOWER SNAKE RIVER, Wash. – Public vehicle crossings at three dams on the lower Snake River are temporarily suspended throughout today, Nov. 26, to accommodate a security exercise, according to officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District announced today that the project’s operations and maintenance contractor, Anderson Construction Company, will begin the seasonal maintenance of the Government property line around the reservoir on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013. Spillway Slab project at Gavins Point Dam continues
On Monday, Dec. 2, work on the concrete slab below the Gavins Point Spillway, near Yankton, S.D., is set to resume, which will close the parking area to the public until the work is completed. The slab was damaged when record amounts of water were released from the spillway during the 2011 flood.

A stalled front brings record rainfall to the Front Range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. The runoff brings a surge of water through canyons and foothills and into major population centers of central Colorado. But, this surge of water happened only in a virtual environment. During the week of Aug. 19, several employees from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District participated in a safety exercise focused on Cherry Creek Dam and Reservoir near Denver, Colo. – or more to the point, in the middle of the Denver metropolitan area.
