    ONE LANE OF HIGHWAY 60 ACROSS TOAD SUCK LOCK AND DAM TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE IN JANUARY

    CONWAY, Ark. – One lane of Highway 60 across Toad Suck Lock and Dam will be closed from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m. Jan. 14-15. During the lane closure maintenance will be performed on the dam.

    DoD adopts Army Corps of Engineers BUILDER SMS standard for all facility condition assessments

    FORT WORTH, Texas-- A decision in September 2013 by the Department of Defense to mandate use of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, or USACE-developed facility condition assessment software opens up new asset management opportunities across the Corps. The genesis of this USACE Asset Management Program business line came more than three years ago when the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) approached USACE Headquarters.

    Corps submits report to Congress with alternatives to prevent Asian carp and other species’ transfer between the Great Lakes and Mississippi River basins

    The Corps submitted to Congress the Great Lakes and Mississippi River Interbasin Study (GLMRIS) Report Jan. 6, 2014. The report contains eight alternatives, each with concept-level design and cost information, and evaluates the potential of these alternatives to prevent, to the maximum extent possible, the spread of 13 aquatic nuisance species, to include Asian carp. The options concentrate on the Chicago Area Waterway System and include a wide spectrum of alternatives ranging from continuing current activities to complete separation of the watersheds.

    Europe District engineers drive STEM initiative in 2013 and beyond

    WIESBADEN, Germany -- Did you have a mentor growing up? Perhaps you can recall a role model, adviser or volunteer who helped steer you toward the career you have today. Last year, more than 20 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District volunteers spent time with local students -- helping them understand the practical applications of science, technology, engineering and math; set education and career goals; and relate and communicate better with adults.

    14-001 Corps removing obsolete Dworshak Hatchery road bridge; At-grade railroad crossing will replace old bridge

    AHSAHKA, Idaho – The Dworshak Hatchery access road bridge across railroad tracks near Orofino, Idaho, is being removed and replaced with an at-grade vehicle crossing, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials. Motorists should be aware of construction traffic in the area through the planned end of the project on Apr. 30. For safety, some hiking trails near Bruce’s Eddy recreation area at Dworshak Dam have been temporarily closed during initial January construction.
