• Corps, EPA, DOJ resolve Chesapeake Energy permit issue

    The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Justice announced today that Chesapeake Appalachia, LLC, a subsidiary of Chesapeake Energy, will spend an EPA-estimated $6.5 million to restore 27 sites damaged by unauthorized discharges of fill material into streams and wetlands, and to implement a comprehensive plan to comply with federal and state water protection laws at the company’s natural gas extraction sites in West Virginia.

The undertaking entails the installation of a 12-inch diameter buried natural gas pipeline within the Crooked Creek Lake management area labeled - tracts L-27 and L-28.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District awarded two contracts Dec. 17 to improve and upgrade facilities at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, to help the base train with and accommodate F-35 fighter jets.
  • Boundary Maintenance Work at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake will perform boundary maintenance work from December 16, 2013 through January 10, 2014 on multiple sections of the boundary line at Carlyle Lake. Boundary line maintenance work consists of uniformed Park Rangers and volunteers walking the boundary lines, replacing signposts, identifying encroachments on government property, inspecting mowing permits and clearing brush. The maintenance work is performed annually during the winter months when vegetation is at a minimum. Boundary line maintenance is necessary in order to maintain a visible boundary line and to protect the public lands at Carlyle Lake. The areas scheduled for maintenance will consist of various subdivisions located around the lake.
