• Blue Marsh Lake Day Use Area to Re-Open

    With the reduction in lake level, the staff at Blue Marsh will open the Dry Brooks Day Use area and Church Road Access for day use activities on Saturday, May 3. Swimming at the beach area will be prohibited. Restroom facilities at both areas will be restricted to portable toilets only.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District invites public comments on an environmental assessment (EA) for the Nursery Bridge Drop Structure Repair project on the Walla Walla River in Milton-Freewater, Ore. Comments are due by May 21.

    Mayport Elementary Coastal Sciences Academy fifth graders are studying the Jax Port “dredging debate” and recently invited the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District to present its case.   • Blue Marsh Lake begins water releases

    May 2, 1014— Blue Marsh Lake recreation facilities have been closed to the public due to recent heavy rain and flood damage reduction actions. The lake level rose nearly five and a half feet higher than the normal summer pool. On the evening of May 1, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers determined the Schuylkill River could accept additional storm run-off and at 10 p.m., dam operators started taking actions to reduce water levels in the lake. The current release level from the dam is 2500 cubic feet per second. While this is not a major release, it is a significant amount of water.
  • Corps promotes wetlands awareness to elementary students

    Hands were thrown upward toward the classroom ceiling when sixth-grade students answered whether they have visited Potter Marsh, Connors Bog or took a trip on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. These public recreational sites are either adjacent to waters of the United States or are local wetlands within the jurisdiction of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District’s regulatory program.
  • Corps of Engineers completes Brevard County beach project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces that operations have wound down on the Brevard County Beach Erosion Control Project with yesterday’s completion of the North Reach. The South Reach was completed in January. Dredged beach sand now reinforces more than 10 miles of Brevard County shoreline.
  • Gavins Point spillway road closed May 5-9

    The road crossing Gavins Point Dam, near Yankton, S.D., also known as Crest Road or the spillway road, will be closed from 8 a.m. Monday, May 5 through 5 p.m. Friday May 9 while crews conduct spillway maintenance. The closure will include nighttime hours. The public is asked to plan on an alternate route of travel during this time.
