    Environment, sense of community restored at Westmoreland Park

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers partnered with the City of Portland to restore the portion of Crystal Springs Creek that flows through Westmoreland Park in southeast Portland. The Corps removed a man-made duck pond and restored the area to a natural wetland. Restoring ecosystems and improving watershed health are important Corps missions.

    Army Corps continues progress on Hurricane Sandy recovery

    Together with its federal, state, local and industry partners, the Army Corps' North Atlantic Division, which extends from Virginia to Maine, has completed 66 coastal storm damage risk reduction projects, including repairs on 46 Sandy-damaged navigation channels and structures and restoration of 20 engineered beach projects along the coast.

    Hunters, fishermen and boaters – be cautious of cold water

    Autumn is a time when many hunters and anglers take to the woods or lake for a day of hunting or fishing. Very few consider that they may not return from their outing because of drowning or succumbing to hypothermia. The fact is that drowning is a leading cause of death among outdoorsmen and unexpectedly finding yourself in cold water can bring on hypothermia much faster than one might think.
