    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Memorial Day weekend is going to be busy this year. With large crowds of people gathering at the lakes, the potential for drowning and accidents increase. Before you head out for a day on or near the water, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers encourages our visitors to expect the unexpected and think about these four safety tips for Memorial Day and the summer season.
  • Join us for Dam Safety Awareness Day and Promote Dam Safety within our Community

    The Kansas City District, Corps of Engineers will observe National Dam Safety Awareness Day by holding two informational events. The events will be held at 9 a.m. on May 28 at the Litton Visitor Center at Smithville Lake, and at 2 p.m. on May 28 at the Tuttle Creek Lake Visitor Center. John Benson, Dam Safety Program Manager will be available to provide an informational overview and answer questions.

Approximately two hours in length, tours are scheduled June 20, July 18 and Aug. 15, 2015, with tour start times of 9 a.m. and 11 p.m.

  • USACE completes munitions investigation at Middlesex County College construction site

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New York District has completed its investigation into the potential presence of buried items related to munitions and explosives of concern (MEC) that could be related to the former Raritan Arsenal in the section of Middlesex County College where construction crews are building a new student services center. No munitions items were found during anomaly digs. All items removed were cultural debris, like scrap metal or other metallic items not related to MEC. No further investigation into the construction site is anticipated at this time.
