    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), is pleased to announce the release of the Draft Feasibility Report for the Raritan Bay and Sandy Hook Bay, Highlands, NJ, Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study and the opening of the public comment period on those documents. The public review and comment period is scheduled begin on July 17, 2015 and end August 17, 2015.
  • Baltimore District welcomes its 67th commander

    Col. Edward P. Chamberlayne became the 67th commander of the Baltimore District, during a traditional military change of command ceremony Friday at Fort McHenry. He assumed command from Col. J. Richard Jordan III who has commanded the Baltimore District for the past three years. Chamberlayne, a native of Alexandria, Virginia, will now command the Corps district that includes his hometown.

    Recent heavy rainfall raised both Summersville and Sutton Lakes in West Virginia above the normal summer pool elevation, forcing the temporary closure of some of the campgrounds and recreation areas at each location. As both lakes return to their normal summer pool levels, those sites are being opened.

  • Corps urges boaters to use caution on Okeechobee Waterway

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District is urging boaters on Lake Okeechobee to use caution as a result of falling water levels impacting navigation routes. The Corps issued a Notice to Navigation yesterday (June 15), advising commercial and recreational vessels to use extreme caution while traveling Okeechobee Waterway Route 2 between Port Mayaca and Clewiston. Officials are also asking boaters to use caution in the waterway between Clewiston and Moore Haven as temporary dams associated with rehabilitation work on the Herbert Hoover Dike have created a narrow channel at multiple locations.
