  • 16-008 Corps volunteers kick off E-Week with DeSales High School students

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. –Volunteers with the Walla Walla District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, partnered with DeSales Catholic High School, to hold a competition on Feb. 23, 2016 in celebration of National Engineers week (Feb.22-26). Students had 20 minutes to construct a paper tower, as part of their curriculum, as well as encouraging an interest in engineering. Teams received points based on the height of their tower and the amount of weight it could hold without collapsing.

  • Corps to reduce flows from Lake Okeechobee

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District will reduce the amount of water flowing from Lake Okeechobee starting Friday (March 4). The new target flow for the Caloosahatchee Estuary is 4,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) as measured at Moore Haven Lock (S-77) located in the southwest part of the lake. The new target flow for the St. Lucie Estuary is 1,800 cfs as measured at St. Lucie Lock (S-80) near Stuart.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March, 3, 2016) — Every year thousands of people in the United States mourn the loss of loved ones who could have survived if they had been wearing a life jacket while spending time on or near our nation’s waters. To heighten awareness, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently launched a national water safety campaign titled “Life Jackets Worn - Nobody Mourns.”

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been invited by the Lincoln/Lancaster County Railroad Transportation Safety District to participate in an open house public meeting on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Nebraska Educational Telecommunications Building, 1800 N. 33rd Street, Lincoln, Nebraska. The Corps will provide an update on the Deadman's Run flood risk management feasibility study.
