• CORPS LIFTS SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY FOR ARKANSAS RIVER

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Army Corps of Engineers has lifted the small craft advisory for the Arkansas River. Advisories are issued when flows reach 70,000 cubic feet per second. Even though flows have receded below that threshold, Corps officials urge boaters to always use caution when on the river.

  • Vicksburg District Announces Promotion of Chief of Emergency Management

    Vicksburg, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District, is proud to announce the promotion of Cpt. David M. Kenna to the military rank of Major. Maj. Kenna was commissioned in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in December 2005, and joined the District in April 2014. He serves as chief of the emergency management branch of Operations Division. His duties include developing plans and directing execution of such plans for natural and national emergency situations within the District’s tri-state area of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. He also serves as advisor to the Commander on policy applicability, project eligibility, and operational procedures concerning emergency activities.
  • Army Corps and City of Los Angeles hold public meeting for AngelFest draft Environmental Assessment

    LOS ANGELES – The City of Los Angeles and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District hosted a public meeting in the Balboa Sports Center, in Encino, California, May 10. The meeting provided additional information on the proposed AngelFest event, a three-day music and arts festival in Sepulveda Basin to be held in October 2017.

    OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (May 13, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is offering public access to Old Hickory Navigation Lock located at Cumberland River mile 216.2. The lock will be accessible to visitors seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from May 26 until Sept. 6, 2016.

    ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. (May 13, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is offering public access to Cheatham Navigation Lock, located at Cumberland River mile 148.7. The lock is open to visitors seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from May 26 until Sept. 6, 2016.
  • Yuba River preservation group shares experience with Corps

    Members of the Sacramento District’s Yuba River Ecosystem Restoration Study team toured the ecosystem restoration project at Hammon Bar with leaders of the South Yuba River Citizens League on May 5. SYRCL and their partners replanted riparian growth on Hammon Bar in an effort to provide habitat for fish and other wildlife.
  • Marmet Locks and Dam to Offer Public Tours on June 4

    HUNTINGTON, W.Va – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the Marmet Locks and Dam in Belle, W.Va., will offer tours to the public on June 4, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The tour is being offered as part of the observation of National Dam Safety Awareness Day.

    BURBANK, Wash. – An advanced-technology turbine, designed to improve fish passage at federal dams on the Columbia and Snake rivers is being installed at Ice Harbor Lock and Dam in southeast Washington state.
