• Champlain Canal Barrier Feasibility Study Targets Aquatic Invasive Species Spread Prevention

    Grand Isle, VT– The Lake Champlain Basin Program and New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC), in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), announce that an agreement has been signed to determine how best to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species within the Champlain Canal. The agreement is between the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission and the US Army Corps of Engineers with matching funds provided by the Lake Champlain Basin Program with support from Senator Patrick Leahy and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
  • Cat Island shoreline restoration reduces hurricane risks, boosts natural habitat

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, announced Friday that Cat Island, Miss., has nearly been restored to its 1990’s shoreline, reducing hurricane risks to Mississippi and boosting the natural habitat for birds and turtles. The shoreline restoration is expected to conclude in mid-October with sand fencing and dune vegetation to be installed by May of 2018.

  • Temporary Road Closures at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake will continue routine road maintenance and resurfacing work at various locations. These closures are necessary to provide public safety while work crews are on-site, all work is scheduled to be completed by October 31. During this timeframe expect intermittent closures as areas are prepared and maintenance is completed.
  • Haunted Trail at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – The 2017 Haunted Trail at Carlyle Lake will be Friday, October 20th and Saturday October 21st from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The trail will begin at the Carlyle McDonalds parking lot with a hayride down to the Little Prairie Nature trail where ghost and goblins await. Admission to the trail is $6 per person; all proceeds will go to support the 2018 Fireworks Spectacular. The Haunted Trail is supported by groups who volunteer their time to set up a spook spots along the Little Prairie Nature Trail and haunt the visitors as they pass through. Prizes for the most ghoulish spot will be awarded with a $300 first place prize, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place.   • HIGHWAY 178 BRIDGE ACROSS BULL SHOALS DAM TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE

    MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – The Corps of Engineers will close both lanes of Highway 178 across Bull Shoals Dam from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Oct. 23 and Oct. 24, weather permitting, to install equipment needed to refurbish the tainter gates on Bull Shoals Dam. However, one lane will remain closed from 7 p.m. until 8 a.m. each day.
