    Lake Shelbyville – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville would like to remind lake users of winter safety. Winter drawdown began on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. At that time, the lake level was 599.83 feet above sea level as referenced to the National Vertical Geodetic Datum (NVGD). As of January 10, 2018, the lake level is 596.86 NVGD and decreasing to the target winter pool level of 594.0.

  • Lane shift to occur on Louisiana Avenue

    Weather dependent, on Friday, January 12th, the north and south bound (lake and river bound) travel lanes on Louisiana Avenue, from S. Liberty Street to Chestnut Street, will be shifted to the north bound (lake bound) side of the roadway. Currently, the lanes are on the south bound (river bound) side of the roadway.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Completes Chief Report for Mamaroneck & Sheldrake Rivers Basin Flood Risk Reduction Study

    NEW YORK – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, in partnership with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), is pleased to announce the completion of the Mamaroneck and Sheldrake River Basin Flood Risk Management Study. The Chief of Engineer’s Report was endorsed and signed by the Chief of Engineers at USACE Headquarters on 14 December 2017. Following the study phase, it now will be submitted to the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Office of Management and Budget, and Congress for approval and authorization so it can become eligible to receive federal funding for the pre-engineering and design phase and construction phase.
  • Preparing system for upcoming runoff season; Near normal runoff forecast for 2018

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is continuing to prepare the Missouri River Mainstem Reservoir System (System) for the upcoming runoff season. Current Gavins Point Dam releases are 21,500 cubic feet per second (cfs). Gavins Point Dam winter releases normally range between 12,000 and 17,000 cfs. The total volume of water stored in the System is currently 56.3 million acre-feet (MAF), occupying 0.2 MAF of the 16.3 MAF combined flood control storage zones. Based on current soil moisture conditions, plains and mountain snowpack, the 2018 calendar year runoff forecast is 26.6 MAF above Sioux City, IA, 105 percent of average. Average annual runoff is 25.3 MAF.

The purpose for updating these plans is to bring them into compliance with current U.S. Army Corps of Engineers polices and regulations, update visitor use trends and obtain public input to ensure future activities are accomplished in an environmentally sustainable manner.
