    Returning to school after winter break took on a new meaning at an elementary school located in one of the heavily fire-damaged communities in Santa Rosa, California. Students at Schaefer Elementary School, located in the Coffey Park community, returned to their school building Jan. 9 after a three-month absence as a result of the October 2017 wildfires that blazed through their community.

    In the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – under the direction of the Federal Emergency Management Agency – began undertaking several large-scale missions to help residents in Puerto Rico recover from the devastating storms. Two of the missions assigned to the USACE Recovery Field Office, Puerto Rico, include debris removal and emergency temporary power.
  • Corps awards $3.98 million contract for Santa Barbara County debris removal

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District awarded a $3.98 million contract to Mirack Construction, Inc., of Tempe, Arizona, Jan. 16, for emergency debris removal in Santa Barbara County flood basins to restore capacity and reduce the risk of flooding to homes and businesses.
