    Corps accepts public comment through March 31 regarding temporary lock closure

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District will accept public comment through March 31 regarding the temporary closure of the Ortona Lock in scheduled for June. The Corps has been accepting public comments on the proposal to temporarily close the Ortona Lock along the Okeechobee Waterway in south Florida for maintenance and repairs since the end of January.

    18-028 23 more Walla Walla District employees volunteer support to FEMA missions

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Nineteen U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District employees deployed during the past week to support Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) hurricane-recovery efforts in Puerto Rico, according to District emergency management officials. Additionally, a safety and occupational health specialist deployed to support FEMA’s California wildfire recovery mission in Sonoma County; and two engineers with expertise in cost estimation are providing reach-back support to FEMA missions from their offices in the District Headquarters in Walla Walla, Washington.

    USACE Galveston extends response date of Request for Information (RFI) for Excavation and Removal of Soil from Flood Pool

    GALVESTON, Texas (March 27, 2018)–The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Galveston District posted an extension on the response date for a special notice synopsis regarding a Request for Information (RFI) for Excavation and Removal of Soil from Flood Pool to May 4 2018. USACE Galveston District, is evaluating the level of interest from government, industry, and others parties for the excavation and removal of geologically deposited soils within the flood pool of Addicks and Barker reservoirs in Harris and Fort Bend counties, Texas. The concept of the potential project is to allow for the beneficial use of these materials by interested parties while increasing reservoir storage capacity of the Government project.

    Open house scheduled in Oacoma, South Dakota for erosion feasibility study

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in cooperation with the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe, will hold an open house on Tuesday, April 3 from 5 to 7p.m. at the Oacoma Community Center, 100 E. 3rd Street in Oacoma, SD to seek comments on potential opportunities to address erosion that is threatening the town of Lower Brule. There will be a brief, formal presentation at 5:30 p.m.

    Looming tower casts potential shadow across Willamette Valley

    For several months, Jeff Ament has been watching tension simmer along the banks of the North Santiam River, as it churns and empties its frustrations into the Willamette River as residents voice a mix of anxieties about a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ project at Detroit Dam. The proposed project, a temperature control tower and fish collection facility, will provide temperature regulation and fish passage through the dam for endangered fish – and have impacts on residents throughout the watershed, from Sweet Home, Salem, Detroit and Albany.
