Local Army engineer district changes leaders

Calcasieu River ship channel receives $103 million for operation and maintenance

Corps of Engineers receives millions in additional funding for flood risk management, navigation, restoration missions in Chesapeake Bay
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, has received additional funding to dredge the Ocean City Inlet, reduce flood risk in New York, expand Poplar Island and begin design work at Mid-Bay Island. This funding is through the 2018 Work Plan for the Army Civil Works Program, which is Congressionally-authorized funding specifically for the Corps in addition to funding outlined in the 2018 Administration’s Budget.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers stress importance of water release warnings behind Whitney dam
FORT WORTH, Texas –Visitors to the area downstream of Whitney Dam are reminded to be aware of warning signs and the warning horn. Release of water from the Whitney Powerhouse is immediate at the sound of the first warning horn. Additionally, the public should be aware that significant changes in water access were made in 2017. While boat launching is still permitted from Riverside East, swimming and wading are no longer permitted from either USACE managed access area behind the dam. Signs were installed and violators are subject to citations for violation of Title 36 of the US Code of Federal Regulations.

LRD Commanding General Visits Bluestone Dam
BG (P) Toy, Commanding General, Great Lakes and Ohio River Division visited Bluestone Dam to gain a greater appreciation of the current status of the Bluestone Dam Safety Assurance (DSA) Mega Project and tour Bluestone Dam and its active construction sites. He was able to develop a better understanding and give support for implementation of procured work as well as Phase 5 as approved by a 2017 Dam Safety Modification Report Supplement (DSMRS).
