    Army Corps Builds Combination of Features to Withstand Force of Atlantic

    Work continues on the District’s Fire Island to Moriches Inlet (FIMI) coastal-storm risk reduction project on Fire Island in Suffolk County repairing a 19-mile stretch of coastline from erosion and damage from Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The $281 million project includes placing seven million cubic yards of sand, demolishing nearly 50 structures, installing more than 40 vehicle and pedestrian crossovers for beach access, building several miles of dunes with plantings, and relocating a water line. FIMI is 100 percent funded through the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act of 2013 (PL 113-2) repairing damage from Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

    Summer Employment Available at Lake Shelbyville Lake Shelbyville – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville is looking for qualified candidates to fill student vacancies for the 2019 summer recreation season. Lake Shelbyville offers a great work experience opportunity for those students who plan to make a career in biological sciences, outdoor recreation, or law enforcement. Temporary student positions are available for graduating seniors and college students at the GS-02 level. These positions are available in Interpretive Services, Visitor Assistance, Facility/Grounds Maintenance, Environmental Stewardship, and Administration with an hourly rate around $11.68 and a 40 hour per week work schedule during the summer term. Candidates may be required to work a combination of days, nights, weekends, and holiday shifts.

    Anacostia Watershed Restoration project plan in Prince George’s County gets green light from Army Corps

    Lt. Gen. Todd T. Semonite, chief of engineers and commanding general of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has signed the Chief’s Report for the Anacostia Watershed Restoration study in Prince George’s County that recommends restoring 7 miles of instream habitat, opening 4 miles for fish passage and connecting 14 miles of stream to previously restored stream reaches.

    Corps releases Environmental Assessment for proposed Oroville Temporary Debris Handling Facility

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, today released its Environmental Assessment for use of the former Koppers Inc. Plant in Oroville, California, as a temporary debris handling facility (TDHF) to stage, sort, process and transfer non-hazardous debris generated from the 2018 Camp Wildfire.
