Meeting January 15 for Tacoma Harbor Navigation Improvement draft report
A public meeting is scheduled for January 15 about the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Tacoma Harbor Navigation Improvement Project draft feasibility report and draft environmental assessment. Sessions begin at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the Moore Branch of the Tacoma Public Library in Tacoma, Washington.

Conduit Lining Work at Bear Creek Dam
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would like to announce that no releases will be made from Bear Creek Dam during a one to two day period in early-January while the outlet works facility is prepared for conduit lining work.

USACE Allatoona Lake To Accept Organic Christmas Trees For Recycling
MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District at Allatoona Lake announced Dec. 17, 2019, it will accept organic Christmas trees for recycling from Dec. 26, 2019, to Jan. 3, 2020, at seven drop-off sites around the lake. Artificial trees will not be accepted.

Corps awards contract to continue interim repairs on levee systems
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District awarded a $12 million construction contract to Klutina River Contractors of Irvine, Calif. Friday to continue interim repairs on the Missouri River Levee System L-594.

Army Corps of Engineers dredging Wicomico River to ensure safe shipping to and from Eastern Shore
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers crews have begun dredging the upper portion of the Wicomico River to ensure vessels can continue safely carrying fuel, materials and agricultural supplies to and from Eastern Shore communities.

Millwood Lake Master Plan revisions require temporary halt to shoreline management requests
ASHDOWN, Ark. -- The Army Corps of Engineers’ Millwood Lake Project Office will suspend shoreline activity requests beginning Jan. 1, 2020 to establish a baseline of the lake for officials to use while revising its 45-year-old master plan and 7-year-old shoreline management plan.

Hazardous land used during Atomic Age has green future
In 1945, following the United States’ detonation of two atomic bombs over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, World War II ended and the Atomic Age began. Research on the uses of atomic power also started and the forming of the United States’ Atomic Energy Commission was created to foster this.
