    Corps’ Hartwell Lake Office accepts Christmas trees for recycling

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Hartwell Lake Project Office will again accept natural Christmas trees (no artificial trees) for recycling Dec. 26 through Jan. 26, 2020. All ornaments and tinsel must be removed before dropping the trees off.

    Vicksburg District’s Dredge Jadwin Completes 2019 Season

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District’s Dredge Jadwin completed its 2019 season Dec. 19. During the 2019 season, the Jadwin dredged more than 4 million cubic yards of sand, mud and sediment from the lower Mississippi River to allow the waterway to remain navigable for commercial traffic.

    Innovative thinking at Mount Morris Dam saves taxpayers’ time and money

    The Mount Morris Dam, situated deep in the Genesee River gorge near the northern end of Letchworth State Park in Livingston County, NY, has been very effective at reducing the risk of flooding for downstream communities since it was built in 1952. In fact, to date, the dam has prevented over $3 billion worth of flood damages. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District is responsible for maintaining the dam so that it continues to perform this valuable flood risk reduction mission.

    Melvern Lake announces new reservation policy for Arrow Rock Campground

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Melvern Lake has announced a new reservation policy for the Arrow Rock Campground beginning May 1, 2020. Currently, all campsites in Arrow Rock Campground are 100% reserveable. The new policy will result in several changes for campers at this Corps of Engineers managed park at Melvern Lake.

    USACE announces dry-season strategy for Lake O water management

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District has announced its strategy for management of water in Lake Okeechobee over the coming months. In a column posted to the Jacksonville District website December 19, Jacksonville District Commander Col. Andrew Kelly stated that the Corps would focus on retaining water in the lake while providing freshwater flows to the Caloosahatchee River as long as possible.
