Wallisville Lake Project now accepting applications for the 2020 – 2021 feral hog removal season
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District’s Wallisville Lake Project Office staff is now accepting applications for feral hog removal using trained dogs and trapping. The project will offer 30 permits to individuals using trained dogs through a random drawing. Applications from dog hunters will be accepted during the month of September. A limited number of trapping permits will also be available throughout the year to those interested in trapping feral hogs on project lands.

Corps of Engineers fully engaged in LA Hurricane recovery efforts
When Hurricane Laura struck Lake Charles, Louisiana, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mississippi Valley Division (MVD) response and recovery teams were already in place to execute the critical mission assignments assigned by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Damages sustained in southwestern Louisiana warrant USACE expertise. Mission assignments range from temporary roofing and emergency power installation to supporting the temporary housing mission and conducting infrastructure assessments and providing debris removal technical assistance to the state.

First temporary ‘Blue Roof’ a success
“The governor happened to have a news conference and my wife said, well what about the blue roofs?” Duhon said. “She gave me the information and I got online and registered and here we are today.” The purpose of the program is to provide homeowners in disaster areas with fiber-reinforced sheeting to cover damaged roofs until permanent repairs can be made. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has opened a Blue Roof Sign-Up Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana, at the Lake Charles Civic Center, N Lakeshore Dr, Lake Charles, LA 70601, open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 21, 2020. The program is currently active in Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jefferson Davis, and Vernon parishes and is free to homeowners.

District awards contract for Farrenburg Levee Phase 5 project
Congratulations to the Farrenburg Levee Phase 5 Project Delivery Team (PDT) for advancing their project to the important Contract Award milestone. The team awarded the contract to VuCon, LLC. on August 30. Work the contractor will perform consists of replacing two culverts, which have reached their life expectancy, that cross under the Farrenbeurg Levee, closing a gap in the levee and raising sections of the levee to the authorized grade. Drainage infrastructure like this is a vital part of the overall levee protection system.

USACE announces faster drawdown of Lake Washington lake levels
Seattle District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ officials have announced Lake Washington elevation reductions in preparation for the Suquamish Tribal fishing season and Corps Emergency Scour Repair project that begins September 13 and 15, respectively. The drawdown has begun and the projected lake level should reach 20.25 ft. by September 12.
