    In a demonstration of collaboration and innovation, the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center deployed an experimental asset and team of experts to the Missouri River in the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to assist in dredging shallow areas called shoals in the navigation river channel.

    In contingency operations, the Modular Causeway System (MCS), an assembly of floating modules, is often used for loading and unloading supplies and equipment from ship to shore. The U.S. Transportation Command has enlisted the help of researchers at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) to numerically model the MCS and provide data that will aid in expanding the guidance to increase safety and efficiency for the warfighter.

    ERDC delivers augmented reality solutions in the fight against COVID-19

    Scientists and engineers at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) are using augmented reality technology to assist peers throughout the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in virtually conducting site assessments of alternate care facilities (ACFs) across the country. Augmented reality technology, developed by researchers at the ERDC Information Technology Laboratory (ITL), offers a way for the USACE to assess potential ACF locations while assisting with social distancing and safety considerations.

    Scientists measure sea spray at Mount Desert Rock

    CONCORD, Mass. -- Scientists from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory and NorthWest Research Associates recently braved the wind and cold of the Gulf of Maine to collect data for an Office of Naval Research project on sea spray. The project, "Sea Spray Icing in the Emerging Open Waters of the Arctic Ocean," is an effort to better characterize sea spray formation in high winds and cold temperatures.

    STEM outreach program impacts students of all ages

    Teacher involvements have been one of the keys to the STEM program’s success. These activities, which make optimal use of vendors who specialize in STEM education training programs, work closely with Department of Defense laboratories across the nation to integrate science and engineers into the training process, providing instruction on modern learning tools and strategies so that teachers and S&Es located near DOD labs can successfully work together.
