    Pacific Ocean Division holds Change of Command & Responsibility Ceremony

    Brig. Gen. Thoma J. Tickner relinquished his position as commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Pacific Ocean Division (POD) to Col. Kirk E. Gibbs, during a social distance adherence change of command and responsibility ceremony, July 8. The Army division conducted the change of responsibility from Command Sgt. Maj. Patrickson Toussaint to Command Sgt. Maj. Douglas W. Galick.

    Officials for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District observed an ice jam on the Chena River while monitoring changing river levels on April 23 near North Pole.

    Ice Jams Trigger Operation of the Moose Creek Dam on Chena River

    For the first time since operation of the Moose Creek Dam began in 1981, ice jams in the Chena River were the reason that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District regulated stream flow to successfully prevent flooding of communities in the Fairbanks North Star Borough from April 24 to 30.

    Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) commanding general, made his first visit to Japan July 18-20, 2012.

For his outstanding work and contributions to the Honolulu District, Guttormsen received the Meritorious Service Medal. Guttormsen leaves to become the Division Engineer for the 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Asbery most recently served as the Executive Officer to the Commanding General, Human Resources Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky. Asbery deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He also deployed to the Mississippi Coast in support of Hurricane Katrina disaster relief efforts in 2005 as a Forward Engineer Support Team leader.

    Lt. Col. Thomas D. Asbery became the 68th commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Honolulu District in a military ceremony held July 18, 2012 on Fort Shafter, Hawaii's Palm Circle parade field.
