    Army Corps of Engineers completes multi-purpose chapel at Dover Air Force Base

    DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- On February 25, 2013 the Philadelphia District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, together with officials from the 436th Airlift Wing and from Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations, participated in a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony to officially open the newest building at Dover Air Force Base -- the Chapel Center.

    POINT PLEASANT, NJ -- When the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers needs to repair a dam outlet, marine bulkhead or any other infrastructure submerged in the water, it presents an engineering challenge. The added variable can make repairs more difficult, costly and time-consuming.

  • Army Corps awards contract for periodic nourishment of Bethany, South Bethany beaches

    PHILADELPHIA (Sept. 21, 2020) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District has awarded a contract to Weeks Marine, Inc. for $11.1 million to conduct the periodic nourishment of the Bethany & South Bethany Coastal Storm Risk Management project in Delaware. Work is the result of a partnership between the Army Corps’ Philadelphia District and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.
  • Army Corps updates road closure status at Francis E. Walter Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced the Route 940 entrance to the Francis E. Walter Dam will reopen on Sept. 18, 2020. The Bear Creek White Haven Road entrance to the dam will then close to traffic as road repairs shift to that area. Road repairs and paving work has been ongoing since June 2020 and is being conducted in phases.

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District updated the 2020 Francis E. Walter Dam Flow Management Plan. The Army Corps updated the plan, which states whitewater and fisheries releases will be scheduled if enough water storage is accumulated in the reservoir.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District’s temporary emergency power planning and response team deployed to Connecticut to provide generator power to critical facilities in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Isaias, Aug. 7.

  • USACE Philadelphia District supporting response to COVID-19 public health emergency

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District is providing initial planning and engineering support for the States of New Jersey and Delaware to address possible medical facility shortages due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The mission, in support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the two states, is part of a nationwide federal, state and local effort to respond to the public health emergency.
  • UPDATE: All scheduled events at Blue Marsh Lake cancelled

    Following guidelines issued by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters, all scheduled events at Blue Marsh Lake are cancelled until further notice. This includes all previously issued Special Use Permits for organized activities such as fishing tournaments, trail races, church services, and search and rescue training. The beach area is closed to public use and large group use of the picnic areas is prohibited. Park Rangers are still on duty and will be disbursing any large groups they come upon while on patrol.
