Raystown Lake announces Mountain Bike Skills Park, Allegrippis Trails seasonal closure

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, will close Raystown Lake's Mountain Bike Skills Park for the winter season on Friday, Nov. 25, 2022. The Skills Park is scheduled to reopen in April 2023 for the start of the new recreation season.

Volksweg Trail Extension Now Open to Cordova Park

The newest section of the Volksweg Trail at Lake Red Rock is now complete and open to the public.  This extension adds an additional 2.5 miles of trail from the Roberts Creek trailhead west to Cordova County Park.  The full length of the Volksweg is now over 17 miles.

Cyclist helps kids pedal through rough patches

A Facilities Division Branch Chief at the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, turned his mountain biking hobby into a way to give back to the community. Through the National Interscholastic Cycling Association, Steve Goolsby is a certified head coach and encourages kids to keep pedaling through rough terrain, whether it is on the bike path or in life.

As the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers undertakes repairs on the Herbert Hoover Dike surrounding Lake Okeechobee, agency officials are reminding hikers and bikers that major portions of the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail (LOST) remain closed.

National Trails Day

In addition to the trails at St. Lucie Lock and Dam, visitors can enjoy walking, hiking, rollerblading, bicycling and horseback riding around Lake Okeechobee. Designated as part of the Florida National Scenic Trail in 1993, the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail (LOST) is an approximately 110-mile trail encircling the lake. More than half of the trail is paved, and the remainder consists of a two-track gravel roadway on top of the 35-foot high Herbert Hoover Dike.

Corps closes portions of trail to accommodate dike repairs

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced it will close additional portions of the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail (LOST) due to ongoing construction associated with the rehabilitation of Herbert Hoover Dike. On May 1, the portion of trail between John Stretch Park and South Bay is scheduled to close. The closure will likely remain in effect through most of 2014, while contractors work to replace a water control structure at the Culvert 4A site west of South Bay.
