    The start of the wet season is a key moment in any water year, and it is here for 2023. We have seen the weather shift into wet season patterns across south Florida and over Lake Okeechobee. When the system is in a transition, we work together to assess the current system conditions, look back at what’s happened, and evaluate trends moving forward. Let’s review the 2022-2023 dry season and outline our strategy for the 2023 wet season.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, announces a Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual (LOSOM) Project Delivery Team (PDT) Meeting, to be held Friday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Corps reduces Caloosahatchee releases to 457 cfs

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District will reduce flows from the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam (S-79) to the Caloosahatchee estuary this week to a 7-day average rate of 457 cubic feet per second (cfs) from the 650 cfs it had been releasing for much of the dry season. Flows to the St. Lucie estuary remain at zero cfs as measured at the St. Lucie Lock and Dam (S-80).

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, announces the February Project Delivery Team (PDT) meeting for the Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual (LOSOM), to be held from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, February 27 as an online Web Meeting.
  • Corps announces LOSOM project team meetings and public workshops

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, announced today the planned schedule for Project Delivery Team meetings supporting the development of the new Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual (LOSOM) and a series of workshops to provide the public with information about the ongoing efforts to update water management guidelines for the lake which integrate additional projects that will be coming online in 2022.
  • Corps offers series of webinars on Lake O water management

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District will offer a series of lunchtime webinars to provide background information on water management in south Florida as it pertains to Lake Okeechobee and the region. Jacksonville District staff will conduct six webinars, the first beginning at noon, May 20. The intent is to provide information to the public on the Central & Southern Florida Project water management system as work continues on the new Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual (LOSOM).
  • Corps to resume flows Lake Okeechobee to Caloosahatchee

    With Lake Okeechobee continuing its ascent, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District plans to resume flows to the Caloosahatchee River starting tomorrow (Sept. 19).
  • Lake O water levels fall to start 2017

    An extended period of dry weather since Hurricane Matthew in October has caused the water level in Lake Okeechobee to steadily recede over the past six months. This, in sharp comparison to last year’s dry season that contained some of the wettest months ever recorded in the region.
  • Water managers prepare for wet season

    An early start to the wet season in 2013 kept the lake from dropping below 13 feet – its lowest point last year was 13.29 feet on May 27. The loss of water storage capacity became evident when the lake started rising, and the district was left with little choice but to discharge the water in case a tropical system developed that would result in additional heavy rains.
