(Dec. 12, 2024) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Jacksonville District pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) issues the Notice of Availability (NOA) of the Draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Automated Injection of Peroxide-Based Algaecide and Phosphorus Sequestration Agent to Control Harmful Algal Blooms and Manage Phosphorus in the C-44 Canal, Lake Okeechobee, Florida.

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Dec. 6, 2024) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Jacksonville District is beginning preparation of a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) document for the Central and Southern Florida (C&SF) Flood Resiliency (Section 203) Study for Broward Basins on behalf of the non-federal interest, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). The purpose of the study is to develop strategies for managing inland flood risks in Broward County, Florida, which is critical for enhancing the community's resilience against flood risks. USACE is currently gathering information to define issues and concerns that will be addressed in an analysis to be prepared in compliance with the NEPA.

Official NEPA scoping letters will be sent out to agencies and Tribes and published on the project webpage. Comments will be due 30 days from the date of those letters.

(Nov. 26, 2024) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District (USACE) is preparing a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) assessment for the Indian River Lagoon South Project (IRL-S) Recreation Features. IRL-S is a part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). The project was authorized in Section 1001(14) of the Water Resources Development Act of 2007, Public Law 110-114 and Section 8401(6)2 of the Water Resources Development Act of 2022, Public Law 117-3263. The purpose of the IRL-S is to provide benefits to the St. Lucie River and Tributary system and this action will provide recreation features at project components.

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Oct. 11, 2024) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Jacksonville District is preparing a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) assessment for the C-43 West Basin Storage Reservoir (WBSR) Preliminary Project Operating Manual (PPOM). The C-43 WBSR is a component of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). The project was authorized in Section 7002(5) of the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2014. The purpose of the C-43 WBSR is to improve ecological function and productivity in the Caloosahatchee Estuary by capturing and storing basin runoff and excess freshwater released from Lake Okeechobee. The reservoir would also serve as a source of environmental water supply to the estuary during dry periods.

  • USACE Jacksonville District issues NEPA Scoping Letter for a Combined Operational Plan Deviation for Water Conservation Area 3A

    JACKSONVILLE, Florida (May 28, 2024) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District is preparing a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) assessment to support a multi-year planned temporary deviation to the Water Conservation Area 3A (WCA 3A) Regulation Schedule. This regulation schedule is part of the 2020 Combined Operational Plan (COP) Water Control Plan, the current operating plan for the Water Conservation Areas (WCAs), Everglades National Park (ENP) and South Dade Conveyance System. The 2020 COP Water Control Plan defines operations for the constructed features of the Modified Water Deliveries and Canal 111 (C-111) South Dade project components. The map, which can be viewed with the signed document at the link below, shows these features. Under the 2020 COP Water Control Plan, operations of the S-12A, S-12B, S-343A, and S-343B include seasonal closures for the federally listed Cape Sable seaside sparrow. The Final Environmental Impact Statement and Record of Decision was completed on August 28, 2020.
