  • High water levels expected in Kansas and Missouri throughout the holiday weekend

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues to monitor reservoirs and rivers in Kansas and Missouri. Due to widespread heavy rainfall, water elevations across the Heartland are higher than normal. Additional projected rainfall could have significant downstream effects on levee systems along the Missouri River. Our emergency operations center maintains constant contact with levee sponsors and districts to communicate potential risks as they are identified.

  • Corps of Engineers recreation at Perry Lake impacted by flooding

    PERRY, Kan. — Recent rains have increased Perry Lake’s water elevation causing closure of Corps of Engineers facilities due to flooding throughout the Memorial Day weekend. Closures include all Corps boat ramps, Slough Creek, Rock Creek and Old Town campgrounds and Perry Park Beach. The designated ATV area is open with limited access; visitors should call Perry Lake for access information.

  • Corps of Engineers at Perry Lake no longer collecting Day Use Fees

    PERRY, Kan. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Perry Lake will no longer collect Day Use Fees as of March 1, 2019 at the following Perry Lake Day Use Areas; Rock Creek Boat Ramp, Perry Park Beach, Slough Creek Bridge Boat Ramp, Devil's Gap Boat Ramp, Longview Boat Ramp, and Old Town Boat Ramp.

  • Waterfowl Blind Permit Drawing Scheduled at Kanopolis Lake

    MARQUETTE, Kan. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Kanopolis Lake announce the annual waterfowl blind permit drawing. The event will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 at the Kanopolis Lake Information Center located at 105 Riverside Drive, Marquette, KS, 67464.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Friends of the Wild Whoopers agree to assist in the recovery of endangered whooping cranes

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Friends of the Wild Whoopers to assist in the recovery of endangered whooping cranes. Per the MOU, USACE and Friends of the Wild Whoopers will jointly assess whooping crane migration stopover habitat at USACE water resources development projects. The assessments will be used by USACE to develop work plans that maintain and improve existing habitat and create additional habitat for this critically endangered bird as part of USACE Environmental Stewardship Program.

  • Public Health Warning for Melvern Lake Outlet Park Campground and Swim Beach

    The U.S Army Corps of Engineers announce the existence of a blue-green algae bloom at the Outlet Park Campground (River Pond) and Outlet Park swim beach downstream of Melvern Lake. Blue-green algae identification tests have confirmed the presence of the algae. The most recent tests showed the presence of the toxin microcystin but levels can increase or decrease on a daily basis. Hot and sunny weather conditions combined with high nutrient levels create ideal conditions for harmful algae bloom growth. Swimming is not allowed at the Outlet Swim Beach and all wading and contact with algae is highly discouraged. Visitors can utilize Coeur d'Alene Park Swim Beach on the main body of the lake, located west of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Office.

  • Perry Lake swim beach closed for 2018 season

    PERRY, KAN. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Perry Lake announce that the public swim beach will be closed for public safety due to ongoing recreation upgrades. Once the improvements to the swim beach are complete, visitors will enjoy new outdoor wash stations and a new restroom. In addition to the recreation upgrades, the Corps is working to stabilize the beach shoreline and adding a retaining wall.
