The event will be different than that of previous years and will be held as an application process all done online. This procedure will help follow CDC guidelines and eliminate a crowd gathering and person to person contact. The application period will run from Saturday, August 29, 2020 through Saturday, September 12, 2020. The applications to fill out and return can be found through our website, Facebook page or directly emailed to you. The applications can be printed and mailed to our office or emailed to the below email.

    Due to construction work at Kanopolis Lake, the lake will be drawn down an additional foot to elevation 1461.0 feet. Dive work associated with the construction work requires releases to be shut off for safety purposes.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Friends of the Wild Whoopers agree to assist in the recovery of endangered whooping cranes

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Friends of the Wild Whoopers to assist in the recovery of endangered whooping cranes. Per the MOU, USACE and Friends of the Wild Whoopers will jointly assess whooping crane migration stopover habitat at USACE water resources development projects. The assessments will be used by USACE to develop work plans that maintain and improve existing habitat and create additional habitat for this critically endangered bird as part of USACE Environmental Stewardship Program.
  • Kanopolis Lake sees lower spring lake elevations

    MARQUETTE, Kan. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Kanopolis Lake advise visitors that early spring lake elevations will be lower than in normal years. The spring lake level increase will be delayed in order to safely complete construction work which includes replacement of the service gates and inspection of earthen materials from the tower and upstream approach channel.

This event allows hunters self-guided access to public lands managed by the Corps of Engineers including refuge and park areas usually closed to hunting.
