  • Results posted: USACE to hold webinar for Missouri River flow frequency analysis

    The public is invited to attend a webinar July 19, 2023, from noon – 1:00 p.m. CST by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Kansas City and Omaha districts have completed the updates to the flow frequency data on the Lower Missouri River. The focus of the review is for partners in flood preparedness and response to learn more about the updates and how to use the new data.

  • Cost share agreement signed for feasibility study in Holt County, Missouri

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, and the State of Missouri partnered to sign a Feasibility Cost Share Agreement for a feasibility study on the area of river miles 515 to 450, across the river from Holt County on Nov. 15, 2022, in Mound City Missouri. This signing signified the first formal step in the partnership for the Holt County FSCA Missouri River Flood Risk and Resiliency Study, which is a spin-off of the Lower Missouri River Basin System Plan, a larger study that involves four states – Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri.

  • Omaha District addressing Lake Sakakawea low water boat ramp access concerns

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District announced that based on current runoff conditions in the Missouri River Basin, including the lack of plains snowpack, below-average mountain snowpack, and dry upper basin conditions, it has moved forward with plans to facilitate access to Lake Sakakawea.

  • Public comments sought on draft integrated letter report, programmatic environmental assessment for inspection stations in Upper Missouri River Basin

    A draft integrated letter report and programmatic environmental assessment has been developed to determine the economic and environmental impacts of federal participation in state-managed watercraft inspection programs along the Upper Missouri River Basin in Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska. Public comments on the draft EA will be accepted until March 2, 2021.

  • Corps announces fiscal year 2021 civil works' work plan; including $54M for repairs of Missouri River navigation channel

    OMAHA, Neb. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced its 2021 civil works' work plan, which provides funding for the Corps to address water resource issues across the nation. These work plans include approximately $54 million for the repair of several navigation structures along the Missouri River that were damaged from high water and flooding over the past three years.

    Conditions in the Osage and Missouri River Basins continue to present challenges for releasing water from the three Kansas reservoirs and three Missouri reservoirs, in the Osage River Basin, which are holding high water levels behind their dams: Pomona, Melvern and Hillsdale lakes in Kansas; Stockton, Pomme de Terre and Truman lakes in Missouri.

  • Jamestown and Pipestem Reservoirs Update

    Inflows to Jamestown Reservoir due to snowmelt have remained higher than expected. As a result, reservoir water releases will increase to 600 cubic-feet-per-second on April 22. Pipestem Reservoir is currently at a pool elevation 1467.9 feet which is approximately 30% of the reservoir’s capacity.
