  • Nashville District opening campgrounds, recreation areas in June

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 14, 2020) – As part of a phased approach for reopening facilities as part of its COVID-19 reopening plan, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is opening its corps-managed campgrounds within the Cumberland River Basin in Tennessee June 1, 2020.

  • NR 20-010: Nashville District extends campgrounds closure through end of May

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 7, 2020) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is extending its closure of 25 Corps-managed campgrounds within the Cumberland River Basin in Kentucky and Tennessee through at least May 31 in the interest of public safety due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • NR 20-009: Fishing Creek Recreation Area closing for roadway repair

    SOMERSET, Ky. (April 28, 2020) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces Fishing Creek Recreation Area at Lake Cumberland is closing May 1 due to roadway repairs. Officials estimate the area will reopen May 20. During this time the boat ramp, day-use area, and campground will be unavailable.

  • NR 20-007: Public comment sought on environmental assessment for proposed Lake Cumberland Marina expansion

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 13, 2020) – The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is seeking public comment on a draft “environmental assessment” and “unsigned finding of no significant impact,” which evaluate effects to the human environment associated with a proposed expansion of Lake Cumberland Marina.

  • NR 19-049: Bio-acoustic fish fence now operational at Barkley Lock

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Nov. 8, 2019) – Officials commissioned a bio-acoustic fish fence, an experimental project, during a ceremony today at Barkley Lock. Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell and Congressman James Comer, Kentucky 1st District, along with project partners, ceremonially inaugurated the BAFF system as part of a three-year evaluation to deter Asian carp from migrating through the navigation lock and further up the Cumberland River.

  • Kentucky Lock operator cited for preventing $5 million of potential damages

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 6, 2019) – A lock operator at Kentucky Lock received the U.S. Army Meritorious Civilian Service Medal this week from the commanding general of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Great Lakes and Ohio River Division.
