    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 26, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District awarded a $47,257,431 contract yesterday to Voith Hydro, Inc., to rehabilitate three hydropower units at the Center Hill Dam Powerhouse in Lancaster, Tenn.

    LANCASTER, Tenn. (May 30, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is offering more public tours of the Center Hill Dam Powerhouse here Saturday, July 19, Aug. 16, and Sept. 6, 2014. The free guided tours of the structure are at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and noon and are approximately 45 minutes in length.

  • NR 13-043: Walleye in Center Hill Lake threatened by low dissolved oxygen levels

    LANCASTER, Tenn. (Oct. 11, 2013) – Over the past few weeks several dead walleye have been observed at Center Hill Lake. Walleye prefer a cool-water habitat, which means they are usually located fairly deep in the lake this time of year. This year the dissolved oxygen levels in this zone are very low. Data collected yesterday indicated that the only area deeper than about 35 feet that contains any oxygen is a zone between depths of 60-to-90 feet, and even there the levels are quite low.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 10, 2013) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District produces about $40 million annual revenue by converting water’s energy into 3.4 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in 28 generators at its nine Hydropower Plants in the Cumberland River Basin.

  • Center Hill Lake open house, power plant tours draw young, elderly visitors

    LANCASTER, Tenn. (July 21, 2012) – The first tours of the Center Hill Lake Power Plant since Sept. 11, 2001 drew the young and the elderly here today. Visitors ranged from an 83-year-old gentleman who worked on construction of the dam to a nine-year-old boy whose late great-grandfather’s property was reduced by approximately 100 acres, but who also worked on construction of the dam.
  • Construction begins with 'first bite' on foundation barrier wall at Center Hill Dam

    The "first bite" of a $106 million drilling project to stabilize the earthen portion of the Center Hill Dam with a barrier wall was taken July 11, 2012 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District and its contractor, Bauer Foundation Corporation, as the auger of a giant drill rig turned up the first dirt to the cheers of spectators.
