  • Volunteers clean up Lake Cumberland on National Public Lands Day

    SOMERSET, Ky. (Sept. 28, 2021) – More than 120 volunteers collected 276 bags of trash, 53 agricultural and car tires, old dock flotation, a metal railing with stairs, and a doghouse during a community effort to clean up Lake Cumberland on National Public Lands Day.

  • 21-035 Corps seeks public input for Ice Harbor Master Plan Revision

    BURBANK, Wash.– The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District (Corps) has prepared a draft Ice Harbor Master Plan with an accompanying draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and Environmental Assessment (EA) to revise the outdated 1977 Ice Harbor Master Plan. The Corps will be accepting comments from July 1 through 30, 2021.

    AHSAHKA, Idaho – Due to an intensifying regional heatwave, Dworshak Dam will be further increasing their releases to support flow augmentation intended to keep the tailwater of Lower Granite at or below 68° F.

  • 21-033 Dworshak Dam to increase releases for flow augmentation

    AHSAHKA, Idaho – Dworshak Dam releases will increase from 1,500 cubic feet per second (cfs) on Tuesday to the maximum powerhouse capacity of 9,400 cfs by Thursday night. The river will rise approximately 0.5 feet during the flow changes Tuesday night. The river level is then expected to remain in the same range through the end of the week. This increase in releases is being made to support flow augmentation intended to keep the tailwater of Lower Granite at or below 68° F.

    SUFFOLK, Va. — Restoration efforts at the Former Nansemond Ordnance Depot (FNOD) remain an ongoing priority for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Community members can learn more about this Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) and hear the latest cleanup progress during the project’s quarterly Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) virtual meeting scheduled for 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. June 3 via Webex.

  • Alaska District wins Army Environmental Award for Second Consecutive Year

    Climbing up the hillside of a remote Alaskan island, an old tramway rusts into the ground beneath it. With gnarled rails, the 2,400-foot structure is a remanent of an abandoned radar facility that provided early warning of approaching enemy aircraft during World War II. The tramway is part of a formerly used defense site that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District worked to clean up the past two summers.
