  • Sacramento District archaeologist helps preserve “layer cake” of history

    Over 1,900 acres of Northern California property located between Folsom and El Dorado Hills is like “a layer cake of modern history,” according to Erin Hess, an archaeologist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District Regulatory Division. “This area includes everything from remnants of placer mining, hydraulic mining, dredge mining, dairy operations, roadside inns from the 1800s all the way up to Cold War-era missile research facilities,” said Hess.

  • Environmental Assessment available for public review and comment for proposed Wild Rice Dam Removal

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is proposing to remove Wild Rice Dam as a mitigation feature for the proposed Fargo, N.D./Moorhead, Minn., flood risk management project. The flood risk management project could potentially impact fish of the Wild Rice River and removing Wild Rice Dam has been proposed to improve fish movement and reduce potential adverse effects.

  • ONE LANE OF HIGHWAY 60 ACROSS TOAD SUCK LOCK AND DAM TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE

    One lane of Highway 60 across Toad Suck Lock and Dam will be closed from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m. Aug. 25-26. During the lane closure maintenance will be performed on the dam.

  • NR 14-024: Updated Old Hickory Lake Shoreline Management Plan available to public

    HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 11, 2014) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announced today that the 2014 Old Hickory Lake Shoreline Management Plan is finalized and available to the public online at http://www.lrn.usace.army.mil/Locations/Lakes/OldHickoryLake. Hard copies can also be picked up at the Old Hickory Lake Resource Manager’s Office located at No. 5 Power Plant Road.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Missouri River Basin Water Management Division reports runoff in the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa for the month of July was 4.3 million acre feet (MAF), 133 percent of normal.

    MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – The Army Corps of Engineers advises landowners adjacent to public lands on Norfork Lake that maintenance crews will conduct boundary line maintenance along a 30-mile section of government boundary.

    ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 8, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announced today that it is offering public access to Cheatham Navigation Lock beginning Aug. 11, 2014. The lock will be accessible to visitors seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Sept. 30, 2014.

    The Army Corps of Engineers is hosting Bull Shoals Lake Master Plan scoping workshops Aug. 22-27 to share information about the revision process and to collect public comments concerning potential development and land use management around the lake.     Frederick A. Hinman removed sunken vessels “obstructing or endangering navigation,” including the barge Albemarle near Hog Island lighthouse in Virginia, the schooner Maria and Elizabeth near Cape Charles lighthouse in Virginia, the schooner Tarry Not near Craney Island near the mouth of the Nansemond River, the schooner Anthea Godfrey in “Lynn Haven Roads, Virginia” [sic] (which was destroyed by explosives after having shown the wreck and cargo were valueless), and the steamer Concord, which was burned and sunk in the Pamplico River near Washington, North Carolina.

    COUNCE, Tenn. (Aug. 1, 2014) – When a gate at Pickwick Lock malfunctioned early this week, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Dive Team demonstrated its quick-response capability when it organized a dive into the lock to troubleshoot the situation just hours after being notified.
