  • Corps and Bass Pro Shops partner to promote water safety

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District teamed with Bass Pro Shops in Southern California to handout materials emphasizing water and boating safety during Bass Pro Shops “Family Summer Camp” campaign from June 8 to July 14. The effort stemmed from the Corps and Bass Pro Shops signing a partnership agreement in late 2012 to develop projects nationally to improve fish habitat and water and boater safety education.

    GALVESTON, Texas (July 1, 2013) – As the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District prepares for a busy 4th of July (a holiday known for drinking and boating and deadly accidents), Commander Col. Christopher Sallese, USACE Galveston District, urges the public to put safety first and become water aware when participating in water-related recreational activities.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 28, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has recorded six water-related fatalities on its lakes since May 11, 2013. Five drowned, with alcohol use suspected in one death; one died when a vessel ran aground; none were wearing life jackets.

  • USACE Galveston District partners with HSPS to promote safety on the water during 4th of July

    GALVESTON, Texas (June 26, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District partnered with the Houston Sail and Power Squadron (a unit of the United States Power Squadrons) to provide recreational boaters with free vessel safety examinations June 29-30 and July 4 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Trinity River Island Recreation Area (also known as the Wallisville Lake Project Boat Ramp) in Wallisville, Texas.

  • Corps increases outflow from Lac Qui Parle Dam

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will be increasing outflow from Lac Qui Parle Dam, located northwest of Montevideo, Minn., to 4,500 cubic feet per, or cfs, Wednesday, June 26. Depending on additional rainfall, releases from the dam are expected to remain at this level into the first week of July.
