  • Tuttle Creek Lake temporarily closes stilling basin due to construction projects

    Officials will temporarily close the stilling basin at Tuttle Creek Lake in Manhattan, Kansas, due to two construction projects at the lake. The stilling basin is set to temporarily close on May 28, 2024, and will be closed for three to four months, June through September, while the first construction project, a rock overlay project, also known as riprap, is completed. However, the duration of the project will be dependent on weather and the level of the lake.

  • Beach nourishment efforts begin again as U.S. Army Corps of Engineers use BIL funds for Indiana Shoreline Protection Project.

    The Indiana shoreline near Mount Baldy dune is receiving sand again this year to help counteract shoreline erosion. The design and construction supervision are managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Chicago District and has been done for seven of the last ten years. The project is dependent on the availability of beach nourishment government funds. This year, over $2.7M of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) funds are being used to complete the project.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, announces the availability of a proposed Finding of No Significant Impact, draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and associated appendices for periodic beach and dune renourishment along 7,000 feet of shoreline extending southward from Fort Pierce Inlet’s south jetty between Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Range-monuments R-34 and R-41.

    Recently, members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Alaska District’s Construction Division, Civil and Sanitary Section and Geotechnical and Materials Section participated in a field concrete and materials workshop at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. The event included classroom instruction, applied training and a written exam for attendees to obtain the American Concrete Institute’s foundational Level One Field Concrete Certification, which acts as the industry standard for engineers and construction workers around the world.
