  • Tarpon Springs project protects infrastructure, hurricane evacuation route

    Fifteen years after its initial start and nearly 10 years after the execution of the Feasibility Cost Sharing Agreement (FCSA) with the city of Tarpon Springs, Jacksonville District completed construction on the Whitcomb and Kreamer Bayous Hurricane and Storm Damage Reduction Project. The project, located in Tarpon Springs, is a Continuing Authorities Program (CAP) Section 103 Hurricane and Storm Damage Protection Project.

  • Two shore protection projects completed

    In November 2013, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District began an unprecedented project in Broward County to reconstruct 5.1 miles of eroded shoreline. The project, completed Feb. 28, was the first of its kind because it included 10,000 truck deliveries of sand from a mine in central Florida. The district uses the dredge delivery method to renourish federal beaches, but this project had to be completed prior to hurricane season and all dredges had been deployed to other projects.

  • Personal Watercraft and Boating Safety Course Offered Locally

    The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 81, in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at West Point Lake, will conduct a personal watercraft and boating safety course at the West Point Project Management Office on April 15 and 17, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., Eastern Standard Time. This course will provide information on legal requirements, navigation rules, preventing personal watercraft and boating accidents, and new boating laws.

    WASHINGTON (March 25, 2014) — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers today jointly released a proposed rule to clarify protection under the Clean Water Act for streams and wetlands that form the foundation of the nation’s water resources. The proposed rule will benefit businesses by increasing efficiency in determining coverage of the Clean Water Act. The agencies are launching a robust outreach effort over the next 90 days, holding discussions around the country and gathering input needed to shape a final rule.
