  • STEM freshmen learn their lesson at Old Hickory Dam

    OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (March 7, 2014) – More than 20 ninth graders from Stratford STEM Magnet High School received educational lessons about water management on the Cumberland River and its tributaries, ecosystems for big rivers and small streams, hydropower operations, navigation and water safety on a field trip Feb. 27 at Old Hickory Dam.

  • NR 14-003: Corps, Fish and Wildlife Service address compliance requirements at Lake Cumberland

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 29, 2014) – In compliance with federal environmental laws and regulations, the Corps of Engineers Nashville District is actively consulting with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service regarding the discovery of new populations of an existing endangered species in Lake Cumberland, Kentucky. Until this consultation is completed, the Corps will target a maximum pool elevation of 705 feet, which is the same as the 2013 recreation season’s elevation.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 21, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has withdrawn its Notice of Availability for the development and operation of a new commercial marina at Rowena Landing South on Lake Cumberland, just north of Albany, Ky.

  • Barkley Unit 1 generator is back in operation after major repairs

    KUTTAWA, Ky., (Dec. 6, 2013) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s Barkley Hydropower Plant Unit 1 here is back in operation after a phase-to-ground fault caused a fire that damaged the 32.5 Megawatt generator stator windings in Dec. 19, 2010.

    LONDON, Ky. (Oct. 30, 2013) – A team of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District electrical and mechanical engineers are conducting a two-year required maintenance inspection at the Laurel River Dam.

  • Electricians at Wolf Creek Power Plant complete fix on a differential

    JAMESTOWN, Ky. (Sept. 25, 2013) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District employees from the Wolf Creek Power Plant and the Electronic Service Section have completed repairs to generator number three following an electrical ground fault shutdown of the generator.

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Aug. 19, 2013) – The 91-foot tall lower miter gates at Kentucky Lock was a beehive of activity today as workmen assembled wraparound scaffolding in preparation for making needed repairs on the gates.

  • Nashville District celebrates its 125th Anniversary

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 15, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is celebrating 125 years of service to the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers Basins and to the Nation that began when the district was created Aug. 18, 1888 under the command of Lt. Col. John W. Barlow.
