  • Corps announces dates for public meetings to discuss Des Plaines River report

    The dates and locations have been announced for public meetings to discuss the “Upper Des Plaines River and Tributaries, Illinois and Wisconsin Integrated Feasibility Report and Environmental Assessment,” released for public comment on Sept. 3, 2013. The document outlines a variety of potential flood risk management and ecosystem restoration projects that could be implemented along the Upper Des Plaines River – an area that extends approximately from southern Racine County, Wis., to Riverside, Ill.
  • Cherry Creek and Bear Creek Dams begin making small water releases

    To meet water supply requirements in the Denver area, two of the three Denver-area reservoirs operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District will begin making small water releases today. Chatfield Lake remains 5.5 feet below the base of the flood control pool and no releases are scheduled. Releases from Bear Creek Dam will be 250 cubic feet per second and releases from Cherry Creek Dam will be 40 cfs, both beginning today. Over the next several days, coordination with the State of Colorado will continue, and it is likely releases will be gradually increased in order to evacuate flood control storage from these reservoirs.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, has awarded its second contract in the past two weeks to replace two water control structures in Herbert Hoover Dike as part of the ongoing rehabilitation project for the earthen structure surrounding Lake Okeechobee.
  • Army Corps of Engineers waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 28

    WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,400 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Sept. 28. On this day, fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches will be waived.

He has been the volunteer campground host at the Downstream and West End Campgrounds in Fort Peck, Mont., since 2003. Every year, for the last 10 years, April through October, he has been a mainstay.

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers invites the public to participate in Water Sweep 2013 on Saturday, 21 September. This eighth annual award winning event was originated in 2006 to have volunteers clean along the shoreline and remove unwanted obstacles from the banks of the river and water. The goal is to provide safe and enjoyable recreational areas along the river and make a difference in the scenic Ouachita River’s waterways and shorelines.
  • 13-063 Walla Walla District deploys 6 more to support FEMA in Colorado

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Six more U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, power team members departed Walla Walla for Colorado, on Sunday to support the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region 8’s request for emergency power assistance, according to Corps emergency management officials. Three other power team members departed Saturday.
  • Corps announces Columbia River winter recreational vessel lockage schedule

    The winter recreational vessel lock schedule for Columbia River dams began Sept. 16 and will continue through May 14, 2014 at the Bonneville, The Dalles and John Day locks. Recreational vessels may lock through on request during daylight hours only.
