    Corps of Engineers begins Phase II floodfight efforts on White River in Arkansas

    MEMPHIS, Tenn., May 5, 2017 – The Memphis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) began Phase II floodfight activities at 7 a.m. on May 5 along the White River in Arkansas due to high river stages. The area of current or possible flooding is located in the White River (Arkansas) Floodfight Area. Communities that may be affected include Georgetown, Des Arc and Clarendon, Ark.

    Lake Shelbyville and Carlyle Lake Prevent Major Flood Damage

    As of 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017 the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 453.29 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD), with a release of approximately 5,000 cubic feet per second (cfs). The average inflow from May 1st through May 4th was 29,495 day second feet (dsf).

    A draft environmental assessment for a proposed rehabilitation project at four Salt Creek Dam sites is available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of installing filters to address potential seepage issues at the following dam sites: Olive Creek (located approximately four miles southwest of Sprague), Wagon Train (approximately two miles east of Hickman), Stagecoach (one mile south of Hickman) and Pawnee.
