• 17-094 McNary navigation lock to temporarily close for inspections Aug. 30

    UMATILLA, Ore. – McNary Dam’s navigation lock will be out of service for recreational vessels on Wednesday, Aug. 30. The outage is necessary for critical inspections of the downstream gate that require the lock to remain at its lowest water level, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials at the dam.
  • 17-093 Corps removes public health advisory at Chestnut Recreation Area

    CLARKSTON, Wash. – The Walla Walla District of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is removing public advisories to not swim in or drink shoreline river water near the Chestnut Recreation Area in Clarkston, Washington. Laboratory results received today from water samples taken Monday, showed no indication of high levels of fecal bacteria in shoreline river water.

  • Chittenden Locks large chamber closed August 24

    The large lock at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard is closed to all marine traffic today due to an unexpected hydraulics problem. Mechanics are working on the problem, but don’t yet have an estimated time when the large lock can be put back in service. The small lock will be available for vessels throughout the large lock closure. Mariners will be notified when the large lock returns to service.

  • Vicksburg District Hosts Founder’s Day

    VICKSBURG, MISS…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District hosted Founders Day in commemoration of the District’s 144 years of service to the nation. This event celebrates the founding of the Vicksburg district by Capt. William Henry Harrison Benyaurd on August 18, 1879. The Corps of Engineers has maintained a continuous presence in Vicksburg ever since.
  • Corps announces St. Lucie Inlet maintenance dredging award

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces the St. Lucie Inlet maintenance dredging contract award of $5,432,400 to Norfolk Dredging of Chesapeake, Va. The project consists of dredging shoal material from the St. Lucie Inlet to return the channel to its authorized depths.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Thousands of people from across the United States gathered for “Eclipse Mania 2017” on Aug. 21, to catch a glimpse of the total solar eclipse from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers mid-state area lakes and rivers. Visitors from around the country viewed the eclipse at campgrounds, day use areas, along lake shorelines and watched from boats.
