  • REMINDER: Fireworks prohibited on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property

    ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, reminds everyone that possession of explosives or explosive devices of any kind, including fireworks and other pyrotechnics, on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property is prohibited. This prohibition applies to all recreation areas at Saylorville Lake, Lake Red Rock and Coralville Lake as well as Corps of Engineers locations along the Illinois Waterway and Mississippi River.

    On Thursday, June 29, staff and volunteers from Alum Creek Lake and the Columbus Sail & Power Squadron (both members of the Central Ohio Safe Boating Council) painted a water safety message on Delaware Dam. The dam has been painted every year since 2004, and 2017 is the 18th painting of the dam!

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing comments received regarding the draft Missouri River Recovery Program-Environmental Impact Statement as it moves toward preparing a final EIS which is anticipated to be released in summer 2018. “Public comments are a crucial element in developing the final EIS and record of decision,” said Maj. Gen. Scott A. Spellmon, commanding general, Northwestern Division, USACE.

  • Corps to implement deviation to assist with Everglades’ high-water event

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District is implementing temporary operational changes to alleviate high water conditions within the Everglades’ water conservation areas west of the Fort Lauderdale and Miami metro areas. The temporary deviation aims to reduce stages in Water Conservation Areas 1, 2, and 3 in Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade Counties. Heavy rain since the beginning of June have caused the water levels in the conservation areas to rise to historic levels for this time of year.
