    MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is scheduling a full road closure for Highway 178 across Bull Shoals Dam from 6:30 a.m. July 9 until 5 p.m. July 11, 2024, to deploy and remove equipment used to perform maintenance on the dam.

  • Army Corps, Illinois, and Michigan sign agreement to move Brandon Road Interbasin Project forward and unlock Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding for construction

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, and the states of Illinois and Michigan signed a project partnership agreement this week for the Brandon Road Interbasin Project, moving the project forward into construction phase. This milestone agreement allows $274 million in federal funding, including $226 million provided by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and $114 million in state funding to be used for construction of the first of three construction increments of the $1.15 billion project designed to prevent the upstream movement of aquatic nuisance species into the Great Lakes.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District’s Levee Safety Center was recently recognized by USACE Headquarters (HQ USACE) for exceptional contributions of excellence in performance, leadership, professional development, and support throughout the Levee Safety Program. Levee Safety Program Manager Melissa Mullen was selected as the 2024 Levee Safety Professional of the Year for her excellence in levee safety contributions. Award nominations were received agency-wide and the HQ USACE Levee Safety Committee chose Mullen out of numerous candidates.
  • Army Corps shares traffic advisory for Francis E. Walter Dam roads

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District shared a traffic advisory regarding roads at the Francis E. Walter Dam in White Haven, PA. With several ongoing road and bridge projects in the area, Army Corps staff have observed increased traffic along the Francis E. Walter Dam park access road. It’s important to note that the park access road is not designed as a through road. Federal law prohibits vehicles with a gross vehicle weight above 32,000 pounds (16 tons) from traveling across the dam. Vehicles with a gross vehicle weight above 32,000 pounds should find an alternate route.
  • USACE Jacksonville District issues NEPA Scoping Letter for North Fork St. Lucie River

    JACKSONVILLE, Florida (July 1, 2024) – The Jacksonville District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) is beginning a feasibility study and preparation of a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) assessment for the North Fork St. Lucie River Continuing Authorities Program (CAP) Section 1135 project. The project will focus on oxbow and floodplain restoration on the North Fork St. Lucie River and its associated tributaries. The project is being conducted under Section 1135 of Water Resource Development Act (WRDA) of 1986. This authority provides for the review and modification of structures and operations of water resources projects constructed by the Corps for the purpose of improving the quality of the environment when it is determined that such modifications are feasible, consistent with the authorized project purposes, and will improve the quality of the environment in the public interest. In addition, if it is determined that a Corps water resources project has contributed to the degradation of the quality of the environment, restoration measures may be implemented at the project site or other locations that have been affected by the construction or operation of the project, if such measures do not conflict with the authorized project purposes.
