    The Clark Fork River basin flood team from the Seattle District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is providing scour protection at a levee in Plains, Montana, to protect the fairgrounds, businesses and infrastructure. Okanogan River basin flood team members completed work yesterday with Okanogan County at the Riverside levee and the Clark Fork team completed work on the Turah Levee in Missoula County, Montana. The Pend Oreille team is monitoring levees and providing technical assistance to local communities as the Pend Oreille River continues to rise.
  • Community rallies around Corps’ ecosystem restoration project in Norco

    About 120 volunteers came together to help restore an area around the Santa Ana River to its natural habitat. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District, along with its contractor, UltraSystems Environmental, partnered with the City of Norco to host a restoration-planting event May 12 on more than one acre of the Corps’ land near the Santa Ana River. About 520 plants and 200 plant cuttings, including California buckwheat, Chemise, Mexican elderberry and arroyo willow were planted.

    LOWER SNAKE RIVER, Wash. – If your upcoming Memorial Day weekend plans include a road trip to visit family and friends on the opposite side of the lower Snake River, you may want to keep in mind that most U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams are closed to cross-dam public vehicle traffic on federal holidays, unless otherwise announced. Lower Granite Lock and Dam, on the Snake River near Pomeroy, Washington, will be open for public vehicle crossings on Memorial Day. Walla Walla District operations officials want to remind the public of the holiday closure affecting two of three dams on the Snake River in Washington that normally allow public vehicle crossings – Little Goose, near Starbuck, and Lower Monumental, near Kahlotus.

    NEW YORK-The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Drift Collection Vessel HAYWARD sailed alongside the wedge of U.S. Navy and Canadian surface combatants, Military Sealift ships, and U.S. Coast Guard vessels in the parade of ships that entered New York Harbor May 23rd to participate in Fleet Week 2018, a week-long event celebrating the maritime services. The ships transited the Anchorage Channel and sailed under the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge mid-morning as onlookers lined the shores of Staten Island and Brooklyn, N.Y. and welcomed the fleet.
