  • Public comments sought for Lake Sakakawea (ND) Shoreline Management Plan

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, is seeking public comment as part of the update of the Lake Sakakawea Shoreline Management Plan (SMP). This update is part of a routine five-year review of the SMP. In general, the SMP provide guidance on how USACE will administer the Shoreline Management program at Lake Sakakawea near Riverdale, North Dakota.

  • The 55th Chief of Engineers visits the Memphis District

    The 55th Chief of Engineers, Commanding General of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Lt. Gen. Scott Spellmon, and the 14th Command Sergeant Major, Command Sergeant Major Patrickson Toussaint, visited the Memphis District last week to better understand some of the ways the district supports the USACE Civil Works mission.

  • USACE publishes Record of Decision for Yazoo Area Pumps Project

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) published its Record of Decision for the Yazoo Area Pumps Project Jan. 15. The Record of Decision details USACE’s decisions on the issues discussed in the Final Supplement No. 2 to the 1982 Yazoo Area Pump Project Final Environmental Impact Statement, which was published in the Federal Register in December 2020. The Record of Decision was signed by USACE Maj. Gen. Diana Holland, Commanding General, Mississippi Valley Division.

  • John Day Dam turbine spills oil into Columbia

    A turbine at John Day Dam in eastern Oregon spilled less than 25 gallons of oil into the Columbia River, Jan. 13. Crewmembers were performing maintenance on the unit and observed the spill after they restarted the system.

  • Mobile District Releases Feasibility Report for Okaloosa County, Florida

    On January 15, 2021, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District (USACE), released the Draft Integrated Feasibility Report (FR) and Environmental Assessment (EA) for Okaloosa County, Florida for a 30-day public review and comment period. The purpose of the project is to reduce damages caused by wind-generated and tide-generated waves and currents by stabilizing or restoring the eroded shoreline.

  • USACE lifts small craft advisory for Arkansas River

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Little Rock District lifts the small craft advisory for the Arkansas River. Small craft advisories are issued when flows reach 70,000 cubic feet per second. While flows have receded, USACE officials urge boaters to always use caution when on the river.

  • FishPass project to begin construction

    DETROIT – A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contractor is set to commence construction on the FishPass Project in Traverse City, Michigan the week of January 18. The contractor will begin by installing fencing, removing trees and preparing the site. “This milestone represents years of hard work from many dedicated partners,” said Marty Colburn, City Manager of Traverse City. “We ask the community to be patient with our construction partners as this exciting project advances. Soon, there will be dedicated viewing sites set up for the public to watch FishPass take shape.”

  • Corps urges water safety while recreating this winter

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District reminds all to be prepared for cold water emergencies on or around lakes or rivers this winter. If you fall into the water or through ice, it is critical to get out of the cold water as quickly as possible since you can lose your ability to swim within minutes as hypothermia begins.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces reissuance of 12 existing Nationwide Permits

    On January 13, 2021, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) published a final rule in the Federal Register (86 FR 2744) announcing the reissuance of 12 existing nationwide permits (NWPs) and four new NWPs, as well as the reissuance of NWP general conditions and definitions with some modifications. These 16 NWPs will go into effect on March 15, 2021, and will expire on March 14, 2026
