    Lt. Gen. Semonite Proclaims August 2020 Antiterrorism Month in the US Army Corps of Engineers

    A call to awareness has been released to the Soldiers, Civilians, and families of the US Army Corps of Engineers with the release of Lt. Gen. Semonite’s Proclamation for Antiterrorism Awareness Month. The document strongly urges the Corps Community to take action by way of vigilance to prevent and defeat terrorism.
  • VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District visitors and staff received a surprise July 19 when a catfish grabbling guide service caught a near-record specimen at Arkabutla Lake. The guide service, Southern Boyz Grabbling, used the lake’s natural structure and a weighted wooden box to catch the 81.2-pound female flathead catfish by hand. At 54.5 inches long with a 36.5 inch girth, the catfish was just 8.3 pounds shy of the current state record. Fishermen Dalton Scott, Josh Bennett and Jacob Bennett were guiding a client through her first grabbling experience at the time. Scott discovered the catfish when he checked the box and quickly secured it with a stringer.

The guide service, Southern Boyz Grabbling, used the lake’s natural structure and a weighted wooden box to catch the 81.2-pound female flathead catfish by hand. At 54.5 inches long with a 36.5 inch girth, the catfish was just 8.3 pounds shy of the current state record. Fishermen Dalton Scott, Josh Bennett and Jacob Bennett were guiding a client through her first grabbling experience at the time. Scott discovered the catfish when he checked the box and quickly secured it with a stringer.

    Working with our local project Partner, the St. Francis Levee District of Arkansas, the St. Francis River Gravel Resurfacing Project Delivery Team (PDT) has advanced their project to the Contract Award milestone. They awarded an $8,353,877 contract to JLC Trucking to resurface 110 miles of levee in Cross, Poinsett, Craighead, and Mississippi Counties in Arkansas. This important contract maintenance work provides safe and reliable access for vehicles and monitoring levee conditions.

(Aug. 4, 2020) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District awarded a $7,015,443 contract July 28, 2020, to Kiewit Infrastructure South Co. of Omaha, Neb., for the Ponce De Leon Inlet North Jetty Rehabilitation and Aid to Navigation Replacement Project at Ponce de Leon Inlet in Volusia County, Fla.

They awarded the $2,631,978 contract to Polk & Associates LLC which will resurface approximately 21 miles of the mainline Mississippi River Levee in Lee County, Arkansas. This maintenance of the levee’s crown provides safe and reliable access for vehicles and monitoring levee conditions.

    Conquering a milestone is a big deal for our project delivery teams (PDT). On July 28, the Missouri Levee Gravel Resurfacing PDT celebrated reaching the significant Contract Award project milestone. They awarded the $1,983,466 contract to Better by Design which will resurface approximately 22 miles of the mainline Mississippi River Levee in New Madrid, Missouri. This maintenance on the levee’s crown provides safe and reliable access for vehicles and monitoring levee conditions.

    Army Corps shares information on streamlined storm damage repairs permits and exemptions

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers anticipates that some owners of damaged property from Tropical Storm/Hurricane Isaias within the Baltimore District area will want to conduct repair activities in the near future. It is important to note that most of these smaller repairs may not require an application to be submitted to the Army Corps prior to beginning work.

    Army Corps of Engineers announces proposal to renew and revise nationwide permits

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that it has prepared its proposal to renew and revise 52 nationwide permits for work in wetlands and other waters that are regulated by Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899. The proposal includes five new nationwide permits that pertain to authorizing seaweed mariculture activities, finfish mariculture activities, electric utility line and telecommunications activities, utility line activities for water and other substances, and water reclamation and reuse facilities.  A pre-publication copy of the proposal has been posted on the USACE web site at: https://www.usace.army.mil/Missions/Civil-Works/Regulatory-Program-and-Permits/National-Notices-and-Program-Initiatives/.
