  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers identifies short-term natural disaster recovery activities funded by the Additional Supplemental Appropriations Disaster Relief Act, 2019

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today work that will be accomplished with the Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies, Operation and Maintenance, and Mississippi River and Tributaries account funding provided for emergency recovery efforts in the Additional Supplemental Appropriations Disaster Relief Act, 2019, Public Law 116-20. The act was signed into law, June 6, 2019.
  • Corps of Engineers announces first contract award for the Kansas Citys Levees Program

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, awarded a $33.3 million design-build contract to Michels Corporation of Brownsville, Wis. The Corps of Engineers looks forward to partnering with Michels Corporation for the design and construction to replace and, or modify three pump stations within the Argentine Levee Unit. Project design will begin in October 2019 and construction is anticipated to commence in the fall of 2020.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released the new Jennings Randolph Lake Master Plan that will serve as a guiding document for decision making at the lake for the next 15 to 25 years.
  • Corps contracting with Harris-Stowe State University to develop recruiting program

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City District and Harris-Stowe State University agreed August 23, 2019, to a $49,000 contract to develop a Contracting Professionals Recruiting Program which will include marketing materials for the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Contracting Division. HSSU is a Historically Black College/University (HBCU) in St. Louis, Mo.
  • Corps hosts public meetings for Tuttle Creek Lake Master Plan

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, has prepared a draft Master Plan for Tuttle Creek Lake with an Environmental Assessment and a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) that are available for public review. Two public meetings will be held on September 5, 2019.

    PERRY, Kan. — The U.S Army Corps of Engineers at Perry Lake announce the application opening for the annual Special Archery Hunt Sept. 16 – Dec. 31, 2019. Applicants must apply by Sept. 3, 2019. This event is limited to eight hunters.

    HILLSDALE, Kan.— The U.S Army Corps of Engineers at Hillsdale Lake are teaming up with National Public Lands Day and Hillsdale State Park to host a Hillsdale Lake Cleanup Event on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. Individuals and groups are encouraged to participate and can register by contacting the Corps of Engineers at Hillsdale Lake.
  • Notice of harmful algae bloom at Rathbun Lake

    CENTERVILLE, Iowa - The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rathbun Lake is actively responding to a potentially toxic blue-green algae bloom with site-specific sampling and temporary beach closures.  The present algae bloom has been observed at many areas of Rathbun Lake; from the dam to upper lake areas including Corps of Engineers’ beaches and boat ramps. Blue-green algae bloom are unpredictable. They can develop rapidly and may float or drift around the lake, requiring visitors to exercise their best judgment.  If there is scum, a paint-like surface or the water is bright green, avoid all water contact and keep pets away.  As a precautionary measure, Corps of Engineers’ public designated beaches, Buck Creek and Island View, are closed. Marinas, lakeside businesses and park camping facilities are open for business.
